#18:
What is behind this thermal anomaly 50 metres beneath the ocean?
🌊 In Search of an Underwater Hot Spring: Deep Exploration! 🔥
Join us on a fascinating exploration mission off the coast of Angra do Heroísmo, where scientists are puzzled by a mysterious thermal anomaly. Between geothermal hypotheses and diving to depths of 50 metres, we set off in search of a hot spring hidden beneath the ocean.
🌡️ Detection and Analysis of Thermal Anomalies:
Old sonar readings show abnormal temperature variations, a key clue to possible hydrothermal activity.
🌋 Connection with Volcanic Activity:
Discover how the island of Terceira, built on an active volcanic system, feeds an underground hydrothermal reservoir. Water heated by magma could escape through underwater faults, forming these as yet little-known hot springs.
🧐 Visual Clues and Mysterious Holes on the Ocean Floor :
As we explore, some intriguing formations catch our eye: perfectly symmetrical holes line the seafloor. Are they the sign of an active source or the result of an as yet unexplained phenomenon?
⚠️ Technical and safe diving:
At a depth of 50 metres, every detail counts. Between decompression management and the effects of nitrogen narcosis, we're navigating in an extreme environment where caution and rigour are essential.
🔬 Next stage: Analysis and return to the field!
Back on land, we examine our findings to understand the origin of this phenomenon. But one thing is certain: the exploration has only just begun...
